Advanced Composition
Summary: My professor began her course with a discussion about the flaws in our higher education system. I was immediately intrigued. A professor who wanted to talk about what was wrong with the profession she chose? That was crazy to me. During my first year, the majority of my courses were lecture-heavy. When I was in class, I was used to just sitting in silence, following along with a PowerPoint. It was a refreshing change of pace to sit in a classroom, face my classmates, and discuss relevant topics.
Throughout the semester, we talked a lot about "Kids that Kill," or murderers who were adolescents. The topics brought about conversations that varied widely in topic. We learned about the Supreme Court and the the legal system in the United States. We were allowed to express our opinions and listen to the opinions of others. It felt more like a seminar, and I loved it. I was pushed to develop my own thoughts and learned to put them into concise responses to prompts.
I chose to showcase the following sample of my work because it was the last response assigned in the semester. The prompt asked us to think about all that we had learned in the class and how we had grown or changed our views about the various topics we discussed.
Sample Work: Response #20
